UNTIL recently I thought a colour run was a laundry catastrophe, which took place when my prized Iron Maiden t-shirt, preserved in pristine condition since 2009, turned pink after an unfortunate encounter with a red Peppa Pig hoodie.
It turns out, however, that a Colour Run is really a form of entertainment for toddlers which has developed into a fun event for people who, one would think, are old enough to know better.
Colour Runs were inspired initially by the Hindu festival of Holi. It was adopted by the Americans and began eleven years ago in Phoenix, Arizona as a fun event, becoming the Color Run and growing in popularity...
It now takes place across the world, and last year Withernsea hosted its first Colour Run, taking the opportunity to correct the Americans' bad spelling.
The Colour Run isn't a competition; unlike Euro 24, there are no winners, no runners up. no penalties and best of all, no Gary Lineker. People simply run along the promenade and are bombarded with huge quantities of coloured powder.
This is regarded by both spectators and participants as absolutely hilarious.
Those of you with a more serious disposition might wonder quite what's so funny about it all.
Put it down to the unique English sense of humour.
After all, their parents thought George Formby was hilarious.
Withernsea's Colour Run takes place on the Promenade at 4pm on Saturday August 20.
